House 258
Project – House 258
Location – Hiltingbury, Chandler’s Ford
Scope of Works – Renovation + Extension
This modest 1950s bungalow had a charm our clients loved, but was too small for their young family. Although a number of design options had been explored previously, budget restrictions meant the clients were keen for a new approach which made better use of the unusual site, located within a local special policy area.
Through the addition of a two storey bedroom wing we have been able to incorporate the additional rooms required without compromising the existing spaces. At first floor a new master suite is created, with its own ensuite, dressing area and private balcony, and a bespoke study fitted within the adjacent circulation spaces. At ground floor, two additional bedrooms meet the clients’ needs for additional accommodation. Although existing materials are referenced in the extension, a more contemporary palette of board-on-board cedar cladding and grey aluminium is adopted, with large panes of glazing to the front providing a division between old and new.
A striking contemporary addition to this previously dated property, House 258 has appeared in magazines such as Build It, Grand Designs, and Homebuilding & Renovating, being shortlisted for the Build It Awards 2014 and the Homebuilding and Renovating Awards 2015.
