House 798
Project – House 798
Location – Winchester
Scope of Works – Renovation + Extension
At the end of a quiet Winchester cul-de-sac stands House 798, our client’s detached family home. The clients wished to add an extension that was just as special as the custom luxury Hobson’s Choice kitchen they had already started designing. The property, characterised by its mature borders and hanging tile cladding, had plenty of potential to grow to suit the growing family’s wants and needs. The works included creating a new open plan kitchen-diner, a new seating area, and a new playroom. Further to this, the existing utility was made bigger to now include an attached boot room, and the old dining room was renovated to be a new snug space. To tie this all together, a new stepped patio was added around the extension using the matching ‘outside’ version of the large format ‘inside-outside’ tiles used in the new open plan space. This seamless appearance helps to elevate the finish that one step further to the luxury feel that was sought after.
Another key point on the brief was to maintain the beneficial characteristics of the conservatory that was removed, but in a more thermally controlled way that created spaces more viable for year-round use and comfort. The extension was purposefully designed to maximise the connection to the garden through the use of large sliding doors which in turn maintains a bright, naturally lit internal environment. The extension’s unique form also helps to showcase the kitchen whilst remaining mindful of the windows above, creating an interesting contemporary space that can be used for everything from busy school mornings to a fun evening hosting.
