This week, members from the lifestiles and classic brick team visited us in Winchester and delivered a great CPD. We learnt lots from the presentation from frost resistant bricks to solar roof tiles, we look forward to working together in the future!

This week we are celebrating the interiors for house 544. The Project features a crescent staircase, bespoke display wine case and cinema room. The project has come a long way from its conception, being shortlisted for the best Eco Home in the 2024 Build it Awards. We hope the clients are as proud as of it as we are!

This week we are revisiting house 629, looking at the completed single storey rear extension, it’s great to see how far it has come. The extension provides a complimentary modern streak to the existing building with warm timber tones. It now features a cosy bar and dining space!

This week saw the development of the vaulted roof structure over the master bedroom. With the external walls and posi-joists & steels for the first floor ceilings installed, we’re having fun visualising the final product. We look forward to seeing more of House 720 as it progresses on site!

Happy new year from LA Hally Architect! We enter January of 2024 with the good news that we have two new projects to get stuck into and House 744 has achieved planning permission… all in one week! This single storey rear extension features a sleek modular roof light and gable pitched roof. The project also includes modifications to the dormer and internals! We look forward to hearing more about this project in the future!

This week we are taking a look at the new interiors for house 658. We really enjoyed working with interior designer Laura Porter for this project in Winchester. We look forward to seeing the finishing touches being applied on site.

Great news! We are delighted to have received planning permission for 2 Projects in 1 week, both house 779 and 798! Both projects feature internal renovations and extensions to the rear. Through opening up the floor plans, inserting rooflights and glazing the rear façade, both properties now benefit from open and airy spaces to suit the family’s needs. We look forward to seeing how these projects progress onwards.

It was a privilege to attend the Build It 2023 Awards last Friday, a huge congratulations to the winning and shortlisted participants. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day out around London, visiting at some contemporary architectural landmarks.

This Friday, 24th Nov we are super excited to have a day out of office around London before attending the Build It 2023 Awards. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for our three shortlisted projects, House 709, House 544 and House 614.

Great to see House 594 featured in another press article, this time the December 2023 edition of Build It Magazine! Check out this edition to see the project used as a successful example in a designer’s guide to renovating & extending a 1970’s house.

House 720, Winchester. This new build project in Winchester has made great progress on site, despite the weather! This property was originally a semi-detached house, but after separation and demolition of our client’s side, it is now a detached new build Georgian style home. Â

Brilliant news! We are delighted to have received planning permission for Project 768! The proposed works to this property in Chandler’s Ford include internal renovations and a rear extension to suit the growing needs of this family home. Increased rear glazing frames views around their large garden, and creates a light and airy functional space.

This week we take a trip down memory lane, revisiting house 594. Looking back to when we were on site, it’s great to see how far house 594 has come. It’s gone from being a tired 1970’s brick house to a compelling and contemporary up and over timber extension build. It now features a spiral wine cellar, a large balcony and hidden gutter details.

This week on site the contractors discovered a hidden basement under House 753! Sitting at 3 metres deep, this could potentially become a wine cellar at some point, this is an unusual occurrence, so we look forward to seeing more of House 753 as it progresses on site.

This week comes with some exciting news, we are delighted to announce that have been shortlisted for the BuildIt 2023 Awards in three categories! House 614 for the Best Architect for a Renovation/Conversion Project category, House 544 for the Best Eco Home and House 709 for the Best ICF Home. We will be keeping our fingers crossed!

Details, details, details… House 614 uses a palette of red cedar, anthracite fenestration, and white render to craft its new facades into something beautiful. Go a couple of posts back to see more from this project!

This new build annex to a Grade II listed property is really beginning to take shape! The flint plinth was sampled from existing materials on site and we think it is a lovely way to tie in the new to the old.

Lots of project photography going on recently, here is Simon Maxwell getting the best angles of House 544. This is a new build family home that has lots of eco-friendly systems and solutions, as well as lots of fun features like a home cinema!

Always nice to visit the projects that have been a self-managed by the client whilst on site, House 614 is looking pretty smart! This chalet bungalow underwent major renovation and extension works, and had a complete façade revamp to create a property more suited to the client’s needs and contemporary aesthetics.

We are delighted that we received full planning permission for house 773 last week! The proposed works to this property in the New Forest National Park includes internal reworks and extension to suit the growing needs of this family home, all of which are encapsulated by an updated rear elevation.

A couple of weeks ago we managed to get everyone together and we went out to celebrate Anne-Marie’s time at LA Hally Architect! Wishing her luck as she returns to university for her final year of study.

Taking another look house 281 but with a focus on the interiors this time. We’ve got a professional photo shoot booked in for this one – we can’t wait to see the results! All of the spaces feature plenty of glazing to capitalise on the wonderful views over the water and to allow plenty of daylight deep into the space.

Some rather dramatic skies over House 281 during our visit last week. Nice to see it mostly finished! We really enjoy all the greenery included in the landscaping around the insulated concrete (ICF) house.

Another lot of good news for project 733 – the change of land use for the adjacent plot of land to this grade II listed barn has been granted after quite a tricky planning process! The application also includes a simple three bay garage for a car, a small tractor, and storage.

House 439 had its scaffolding down this week. The timber clad extension uses the narrowest brimstone ash timbers available from Vastern Timber, we think it has turned out very smart!

House 733 was the latest to join our list of projects with approved planning permission! This grade II barn conversion will see a new extension to the rear as well as an update to the existing link between the buildings.

We are currently looking for ambitious and creative Part I & Part II Architectural Assistants to join our small, friendly team in Winchester. You will be working across a wide range of RIBA work stages, assisting with the development of design proposals, preparing & submitting planning applications, preparing drawings & visualisations, & liaising with both clients & contractors.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
· A passion for high end residential design;
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUp (proficiency in Vectorworks preferable but not essential);
· Excellent design & presentation skills;
· Polite & professional attitude;
· Be able to work as part of small busy team;
· Excellent time management skills;
· Fluent written & spoken English;
· Full UK driving license.

Yet another project is through planning! This time it’s House 737 – a single-storey extension with fenestration and material changes in the Winchester area. Things are getting busy here at LA Hally Architect!

Exciting times in the office with House 782 in Winchester having been granted planning permission! The project is a first-floor brick extension over an existing garage which had previously, under different designers, had permission rejected so it feels great to see that the planning officers like our design.

Last week we were granted permission for House 753 in South Downs National Park! We will be working closely with Historic England throughout to ensure this special site is protected.

Another addition to our previous project, this workshop creates a sanctuary and complements the house with similar materials, and a bespoke seating area.

Framed view of a recently completed project in Awbridge, which included renovations of the interior and a total transformation to the front facade due to a two storey extension. Timber cladding and louvres with dark grey brickwork detailing gave the house a contemporary twist.
